It is suitable for building non-combustible, fire-proof and insulation boards, where fire resistance and high temperatures are required.
Vermiculite is very universal mineral. It is clean, with no fragrance, odorless and mold-resistant. It has a remarkable ability to expand many times during heating. This property is known as exfoliation (peeling, flaking).
The use of vermiculite is very broad. It can be used in many applications, most of which require exfoliated vermiculite. Once the vermiculite has undergone exfoliation, it is sterile because of the high temperature during production.
Unlike similar minerals, vermiculite does not contain asbestos or fibrous carcinogenic particles.
The basic component of vermiculite is inter-layer water. When the vermiculite particle is rapidly heated, the interlayer crystalline water is converted into vapor. The pressure of this water causes that the layers begin to separate from each other, and the vermiculite scale creates particles that are twenty to thirty times more voluminous than the original.
Particles are carefully divided into five classes according to the size range:
Vermiculite is a 100% natural mineral additive suitable for substrates of indoor and outdoor plants. It fulfills the function of the water reservoir (or fertilizer), which is gradually released into the soil. It can suck up an extreme amount of water, thus reducing the likelihood of rot and mold. The varied granularity of vermiculite allows access to air to the roots.
Common used for:
Vermiculite does not contain chemicals, is naturally sterile, odor-neutral, perfectly absorbs moisture and is an excellent thermal insulator. For these unique features, it is popular among pet breeders. Vermiculite can be used In breeding as:
In the construction industry, vermiculite has a wide use in the form of non-combustible, fire-proof and insulation boards. These boards are harmless to health, highly durable, strong and mechanically stable. They can be machined with conventional woodworking tools and only minimal dust is produced during their processing.
